The entire process was directed by the young person – from the initial idea, to the selection and placement of the animals and the colours chosen. When coming up with the idea for the mural a couple of different ideas were thought of. The jungle theme was settled on by the young person as they felt it would not matter what age the boys or girls in Gateway were, they could appreciate it.

From start to finish working with the young person on this project was thoroughly enjoyable. To see him get so passionate about a piece of work, and so particular about “getting it just right” was amazing to see. The benefits of using a form of art as the common third was very evident as the young person “got lost” in the process and let his barriers down, in essence becoming a child who enjoyed painting again.
